Half Note and Half Rest Piano Exercise

Each half note (notice the hollow note head) receives 2 counts or beats. This means that you would hold down the piano key while counting 1, 2 and then release the key.
Half Rest in Music
Each half rest (each one looks like a square hat sitting on the 3rd line) receives 2 counts or beats of silence. This is the total opposite of a half note which stands for two beats of continuous sound while pressing down the piano key. During a half rest your finger will be hovering slightly above the piano key to count 1, 2 beats of silence.
