Note value table in music is a quick visual on the main music note symbols you need to learn as a beginner piano student. It is important that you memorize each of these note values and the way they look on the staff.
Note Value Table in Music
Quarter Note
This note gets One Beat or Count. That simply means that you hold down this note for the duration of saying one and then release.
Notice that the note head is filled in and has a stem.
Half Note
This note Gets Two Beats or Counts. Hold down or play this note while counting out loud with your mouth 1, 2 and then release.
Dotted Half Note
Dotted Half Note
This note Gets Three Beats or Counts. Hold down or play this note for the duration of counting to 3 and then release.
Notice the hollow note head and stem. What makes this note different is the date on the right hand side of the note.
Whole Note
This note Gets Four Beats or Counts. Hold down or play this note for the duration of 4 counts and then release.
