Piano Practice Don’t Get Bored Like the Kitten
You may have a different idea of a TOP piano practice tip but this is Very Important. Not just your arms and hands, go all the way down your back by leaning forward, then stand up and do 10 should rolls on each shoulder. This will immediately ease your shoulder tension and keep your energy high.
Begin your practice session with your favorite piece.
Start AND end you practice session with your favorite piece of music! Then sprinkle your least favorites in between your most well liked.
It may sound trivial but this is a great psychological tool…..kind of like eating dessert first..
Keep a schedule.
Sure, there may be times you cannot make your schedule. However, along with your allotted time be sure to throw in other elements that you love. For example, have a glass of wine on your piano or keyboard and sip as you play in the evening. Or, if you are a morning person, bring your favorite coffee mug to place next to you. It’s all about a comfortable environment.
Surround yourself with a visually appealing area.
Hot piano training tip! Organize the space around you to be clean and well kept. A lot of messy papers to look at in between pieces can be very distracting. Place some fresh flowers or a nice green plant in the room. Make it a live environment and a place that you look forward to entering and achieving something which is personally significant to your life.
Rearrange the order of pieces to practice.
While you need to cover all of your bases most practice sessions by practicing scales, finger studies, pieces and theory, it is actually a good idea to switch things up on a regular basis.
Start with your favorite piece one day and with a finger study the next.
Your brain actually responds to keeping things interesting and not plodding along with the same old routine each practice session.
If you normally use a timer to count your practice minutes, just play each piece twice and be done with it. Boredom is the enemy here so get creative and have fun with it!
